security center won t go away

How do I get my security center icon to go away? Its red all the time, since I can't get an anti-virus program to run.
1) i turned off the universal account control. A terrible feature. 2) any recs on a functional anti-virus program?

But I would also consider using one of the free AV programs others have mentioned here. I'm using Avast home edition 4.7 with good results.

There are 2 free antivirus for Vista users:

and TrendMicro PC-cillin https://www.trendbeta.com/index.php?get=80
